Overall assessment of blog
Now that this project is wrapping up, I'm curious what you feel you got out of it. Is this a good way to discuss history? I think personally I'm seeing some comments that I probably wouldn't get in class, which is a good thing, and there are often as many good questions as answers. But I'd like to hear how the process has gone for you personally in better understanding WWII.

I definately like this blog idea of getting us to interact on a subject. Usually our class as a whole is not afraid to speak up in class which is good for discussions, but if someone were a bit shy, the blog is a good way to hear what they have to say.
ReplyDeleteThis gave me a better understanging about WWII than just a lecture in class would, because in order to make your own post interesting, you have to know what you are talking about wich requires you to do some of your own background reasearch. Now we are informed on not only our own topics we wrote about, but all the other ones in the blogs. There has been a pretty steady flow of posts and discussion whcih I think is good so our brains don't shut off to the topic at night or over the weekends.
I think this blogging project got students more involved within a discussion of WWII. This blog gives us reinforcement from what we learned in class. Students are learning about different opinions when everyone posts questions and comments on different topics. Like Erin said, this blog project gave me a more clear understanding of WWII.
ReplyDeleteI like Erin's comment aboput how it keeps the material fresh in our head over the weekends because most stuff is out of my head by the time monday comes around. I like the blog as it was interesting way to research topics without doing a full-blown project, however it was more like a chore to me tahn a blog. I thik if their had been one gerneral topic, such as WWII, and we rjust commment about hings and go back and forth without visiting new topics it would have felt more like a real debating blog. But i did like this.
ReplyDeletei loved this! I thought it was really interesting to see everyone's point of view and i remember a lot of what was posted. I also thought it was productive because we looked up a lot of information and were able to post new things that led to new discussions. I think if we were to do something like this again we should have it be longer and the content of the posts should be graded more than the number of posts
ReplyDeleteI agree with Max when he said it was more like a chore than a blog. I think it would have been more productive if we have a longer amount of time then it will be easier to get more in depth on the topics. Overall it went well. I think that this process would be better for larger classes because it gives more people the opportunity to give their opinions.
ReplyDeleteAs Sophie pointed out grading is the tricky part, that's going to be my job going into the next week or so... you've all done great with this!
ReplyDeleteIt was hard getting to the last posts. I think i have 1 left and I'm having trouble finding where to put it. I would read the posts and be very interested about what was being said then I wouldn't post because I thought what I wanted to say was already taken or the question was answered with facts rather then opinion and there wasn't much left to point out. Also in class we would talk about some of the topics on here and I felt I didn't want to say anything in class because I would right about it later. Sophie and I are actually disagreed on one blog and it's something different and as Max said he would have liked some debates. I did enjoy it overall but wished we had more time and more topics.
ReplyDeleteThrough this project I have learned more about WWII because it forced me to go deeper into specific subjects. It was interesting to see eveyone else's views and build off of them. I do agree with Meghan though. I'm definitely rushing to get the last few in because I don't want to just repeat myself or restate other people's views. It was an interesting way to do things, but I would have rather written the traditional essay on a specific subject so that I wasn't rushng at the end.
ReplyDeletepoint taken that some comments will end up being forced near the end, there are pretty easy ways to handle that if I run it again, but something that wasn't anticipated until we saw it up and running.
