Holocaust deniers explain that books that were written by the wartime leaders including Churchill and Eisenhower never mentioned any gas being used or any planned, systematic extermination of anyone. Also, many deniers explain that in Eli Weisel's book, "Night" he doesn't mention gas being used and when the choice came that he would retreat with the Germans or stay under the Soviet Union he chose to back away from the Germans. Another one of the deniers explains that if there would have been millions of people murdered then there would have been tons of human remains buried. A unnamed denier says "No tons of human remains were ever found. And if they would have been cremated then there would have been tons of ashes and no ashes were ever found." The Holocaust shaped American history, and will continue to shape history throughout generations. How could people believe that the Holocaust never occurred?
Some pictures that deniers see, and still deny that the Holocaust ever took place.

I agree with your statement Gina. How could a some people see those photos and not realize that i was real, and Hitler did cause a huge descimation of the Jewish religion. These images show that it really did occur and people were killed by the hundreds. Some may believe that it did not happen, but that is their opinion. It is important that the people who know and recognize that it did happen need to learn from that and ensure to the citizens of the world that something similar to the Holocoust will be put down in the future.
ReplyDeleteSome people deny that the Holocaust happened because they do not want to believe it. No one wants to believe that someone could have deliberately murdered six million people. They fabricate stories to try and ignore the staggering amounts of evidence that is present. Other deniers just want to bring back the "true Nazi" ideas of Hitler, and name the Holocaust as a "Jewish Conspiracy."
ReplyDeleteIt is much easier to deny the truth then to admit to something bad that happened. If you were part of Nazi Germany and were a supporter of Hitler it would be easier to say that the Holocaust never happened rather then admit you were wrong trusting him. I agree with Jackie, it's their opinion and we shouldn't focus on changing their stubborn ways but teaching the ones that do know it happened.
ReplyDeleteMeghan said it how it is much easier to deny the truth when it did not happen to you, or if you were not directly involved. People say the Holocaust did not happen, but for some, they know that it did, but admiting it will mean giving up what they stand for and admitting defeat-there are still people who feel this way. I saw on the History Channel (my dad was watching it!) that some Allied soldiers forced Germans from nearby towns to walk through the extermination camps after they had liberated who was left alive, but before all the bodies were removed. It is crazy to think that just a few miles down the road from your house there was an extermination camp and you did not realize it, or just did not want to.
ReplyDeleteSince more and more survivors of the Holocaust are passing away, I feel that the Holocaust will be talked about less in families. The Holocaust will be discussed in schools, but I feel that newer generations will not have an interest in the topic, since it is becoming more and more "obsolete". However, the Holocaust will always be discussed as a tragic event in American History, but the statistics will be forgotten. The deniers as Kristen said, "fabricate" stories, and then try to ignore the videos and pictures that were taken as evidence, to prove the Holocaust did in fact occur.

ReplyDeleteThis is a good website because it gives the myth that Holocaust deniers claim are true and then the Historian's point of view
http://www.biblebelievers.org.au/holohoax.htm
ReplyDeletethis website has a lot of the different "truths" about how the Holocaust was a "hoax." It doesn't have any sources listed, however this does show the common arguments that those in denial make. it's actually surpsising how many arguments they make.
There is an article in which it says the Bradley SMIth, the director of the "Committee for Open Debate on the Holocaust", says he will give a person $50,000 to convince a television network to air a 90 min video that shows the denial view. the funny thing is that the article comments on how Smith only made the offer becuase he knew his money was safe as no one would ever try to do that and that a television network would never air that show.
ReplyDeleteSome people don't believe the Holocaust happened because there is no "official record" that was authorized by Hitler. They claim that because there was no official plan, it could not have happened. The deniers say that the few Jews who died "perished from natural causes" or were killed because of criminal offenses. However, these claims are minimally supported by the astounding amounts of evidence that prove that the Holocaust did happen.
ReplyDeleteI think that when people try to say that Jewish people made up the Holocaust because they wanted money, they're further showing their prejudice against the Jews. When doing some research, I found the claim that the diary of Anne Frank was written in a ball point pen which didn't exist during the Holocaust. However, I found the counter argument saying that the entire diary was written in fountain pen and the only thing written in ball point pen was two notes that someone else added to it.
ReplyDeletePeople who claim that since there are no bodies, then there was no Holocaust are also pretty stupid. As we saw today, there were ovens at the termination camps especially Auschwitz. These ovens were clearly for burning bodies because they certainly weren't for making food considering how malnurished the prisoners were.
Since there is no official record of the Holocaust ever happening, people don't believe it. In todays society, people need hard evidence to support a truth. Since many things that relate to the Holocaust are becoming obsolete, or not talked about anymore, many people are denying the Holocaust ever from happening. Since survivors are passing away, and since there is little evidence already supporting that there was a Holocaust, people are having trouble comprehending the little evidence that is shown to the public.
ReplyDeleteIf there was more concrete evidence that was shown to the public, would more people believe that the Holocaust happened? Evidence can include, posts in newspapers from that time period, or personal recorded testimonies. However, we do hear of survivors stories, and their own personal accounts, but students hardly ever read newspaper articles about concentration camps, and the conditions that took place in theses death camps.
ReplyDeleteThis website shows some newspaper articles that were written in 1938, and 1939. These articles are written before the Holocaust technically started, but they are useful.

There is always a rebuttal to any stretch someone who denies teh Holocaust claimes. For example, how Kristen mentioned the Nazis claimed all the Jews died of "Natural causes", those "natural causes" ( dehydration, starvation) were all inflicted by the Nazis. Another argument is how there were no teeth found in teh crematoriums and teth are supposedly supposed to survive, but as we learned in class, when teeth are incinerated at high temperatures, they can start to decay. there is so much evidence out there like images, documents and even first hand accounts that the Holocaust did exist make the arguments to for the denial of it very weak.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people believed the Holocaust did not exist because of the little paper evidence to show the actual number dead, or filed reports of killing. Also, a lot of the literature written was not written during the Holocaust, save a few novels like "The Diary of Anne Frank". The argument that Anne Frank's diary is false is that some of the notes in the document are in ballpoint pen. This writing tool had not been invented yet, so there could be no way of her writing with this. However, research shows that the pen was actually added later when the notes were put together, and she did not write in ball point pen. This evidence not only shows the lack of support for the claim the Holocaust did not exist, but shows the effort put in by others to prove that the Holocaust was a traumatic experience and did happen.
ReplyDeleteThere will always be two sides to every story, and in this case, there will always be two opinions to an event in history. Many websites including "biblebelievers" give a lack of information to support their claim that the Holocaust never took place.
ReplyDeleteErin's right when she mentioned that although the Nazi's claimed the Jews died of "natural causes", all the causes were inflicted upon the Jews by the Nazi's. The Nazi's worked the Jewish to their death, and they eventually starved to death, or died of exhaustion.
It makes sense that there was no filed reports of the killings. Why would the Germans want to file this they were already trying to hide it from the rest of the world. I was talking to the person I am interviewing and she said she knows someone who denies the Holocaust. It is a friend of hers son. She is very ashamed of him and said that it disappoints her friend so much that her son denies something like that.
ReplyDeleteI can see why it would bother the person that you are interviewing, Meghan. People of older generations lived through the fear and the effects of WWII and they were around when the proof was around. Her son was probably not alive during this, so her son should not be making asumptions since he was not around when the evidence was there. As said earlier the Nazi did everything that they could to hide what they were doing so there is not that much evidence, but when there are books of suvivors and their stories it is hard not to believe them.
ReplyDeleteWe discussed that some of the people that did not believe that the holocaust happened were very religious. They believed that God wouldn't let such a horrible event happen and let so many people die. Like Meghan said, Germany did not want others to know the details of what had happened so it is smart of Germany not to document it. However, there are multiple survivors that have told their stories and various pictures of the poor conditions in the camps. It is hard to believe that with all this evidence people could still pretend that the holocaust never existed
ReplyDeleteI completly agree with you Jenna. How could people deny the stories of the survivors. Why would they want to lie about a story such as those. As for the religious people saying that God would not let such a horrible event happen. It is important for them to look at the facts and evidence and stop finding ways to go around the truth. Also they do not want to admit that something so horribe could have happened.
